The Initiative

In order to secure additional experience and expertise for the realization of the Global Assembly, the initiators founded the "Initiativkreis Globale Versammlung" two years ago. This group brings together people from German-speaking countries who are involved in civil society, culture and science. The initiative is also supported by a broad alliance of political activists from human rights, anti-racism, feminism and development organizations as well as media, political foundations and think tanks. Some have been working closely with partner organizations in the Global South for decades.

In addition to Sidonia Blättler, Ramona Lenz, Thomas Gebauer and Stephan Hebel, who represent the Utopian Space, the following people are members of the initiative group: Barbara Unmüßig (long-time board member of the Heinrich Böll Foundation), Cornelia Füllkrug-Weitzel (former president of Bread for the World and Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe), Rainer Weitzel (organizer of several church congresses) and the writer Ilija Trojanow.  The initiative group has founded the "Transnational Democracy" association for organizational and financial management. It is supported by the employees Clara Hebel, Aïda Roumer, Géneviève Lassey and Lukas Sauer.
